This part of the West Seventh neighborhood is the brewery district, where many breweries were constructed in the 1800s due to the ease of digging caves used to store beer in the sandstone. Also, the limestone caprock in this part of town is much thinner than it is in other parts of town, making for easier digging down from the surface.
Unfortunately, most of this small cave system was filled in during the recent reconstruction of Shepard Road. Similar to many of the Lilydale Park caves, there used to be two main passages with numerous cross tunnels. One passage is still accessible by slithering up a slimy pipe about a foot and a half in diameter, but it soon leads to a cement wall.
